MY STORY
Master Goldsmith Aidi Mac Daibhi is a world-renowned designer and maker of fine jewelry. Born in Dublin in 1969, his father was Chemist and his mother is a famous landscape painter and fashion designer. His artistic inclinations were nurtured at an early age, as he was trained by his mother in art and fashion design. In the late 1980s, Aidi began his journey into the world of goldsmithing by working with Master goldsmith Micheal Anderson. Later, he honed his skills under Kilkenny Design Workshop silversmith and manager, Desmond A. Byrne. Aidi’s passion for goldsmithing took him on a journey around the world, where he worked with some of the largest jewelry brands. He spent 15 years in America, working as a designer and maker for prestigious names like Tiffany & Co., Harrods of London, De Beers, and even Disney. His designs became popular and influenced worldwide fashion, particularly during the years 1999 to 2004 when 80% of retail jewelry stores in North America stocked his designs. Aidi’s travels eventually led him to Hong Kong and China, where he worked for 10 years as a designer for some of the largest Asian jewelry brands. His designs are now found in almost all Chinese and Asian retail stores in the East.
In 2014, Aidi returned to Ireland to concentrate on his own brand. His workshop and retail space is currently located on Henry Street in Kenmare, a town in County Kerry, Ireland. Aidi’s goldsmithing designs are unique and of the highest quality, with a focus on using traditional methods and high-quality materials. Aidi’s grandfather was also a goldsmith from Glasgow, and his family’s history in the trade is a source of inspiration for his work. He is passionate about preserving the traditional techniques of goldsmithing and incorporating them into modern designs. Aidi’s designs have won numerous awards and accolades over the years, starting with his design for a medallion representing the Irish senate. He also spearheaded the designs and concept of the Right Hand Ring for De Beers which had successful worldwide influence Despite his success, Aidi remains humble and grateful for the training he received in Kilkenny. He attributes much of his success to the skills he learned there and is committed to passing on his knowledge and skills to the next generation of goldsmiths. Aidi’s commitment to excellence and dedication to the craft of goldsmithing has made him one of the most respected and sought-after goldsmiths in the world today. He still works with global jewellery companies as a designer and his designs continue to influence fashion trends worldwide.
